Michèle Okala coordinates the work of RECOJAC – the Network of Water and Climate Organisations of Central African Youth. She is one of the founding members and she is also in charge of youth issues for GWP Central Africa. Michèle has been volunteering for over 8 years, and she shares some insights to what she has learned – and what she hopes to leave as her legacy: “I created RECOJAC for the generation that will come after me. I am only laying the foundation.”
The water users of the Gbadohouin hydrological unit faced problems related to the weak governance of the resource. To address this situation, a Local Water Committee (LWC) was established.
To further strengthen its institutional capacity, GWP-Congo has operationalized its Technical and Scientific Committee. The pioneer members of the committee were voted in during a meeting held on October 2nd, 2020 in Brazzaville
The Country Water Partnership (CWP) of Mali is very much in line in the implementation of IWRM in the country. After sensitizing various categories of actors, the CWP has recruited a consultant to develop provisional IWRM directory report. The consultant was asked to draw up a document called IWRM Directory on good water management practices in the different sectors.
A training of trainers on "the fundamentals of citizen watch" was organized on 17 and 18, 2021 in Porto-Novo. This activity is part of the implementation of the governance component of the OmiDelta program by the consortium CWP-Benin, Social Watch and ALCRER.
GWP-WA together with IUCN-PACO and PREE project coordinating unit held an hybrid (part face to face and part virtually) Steering Committee meeting on 27 and 28 July, 2021.
The Climate Adaptation Summit (CAS) 2021 takes place online on 25-26 January. It is a global conference that promises to accelerate, innovate, and scale up the world’s efforts in adapting to the inevitable effects of climate change. During the event, the finalists and winners of the Water ChangeMaker Awards will be featured and announced in two different sessions.
GWP-WA has signed in February with IUCN Central and West Africa Regional Office an executing agreement for the implementation of activities included in the Regional Partnership on Water and Environment in Central and West Africa (PREE) project funded by SIDA.
