Turkmenistan is vulnerable to climate change due to the steady temperature rise and increasing water deficiency. While the changing climate is impacting the entire economy, the water sector is suffering the most acutely. The Government of Turkmenistan seeks to strengthen its adaptive and resilience capacities to climate change by integrating climate risks and adaptation measures into planning and budgeting processes via the development of a National Adaptation Planning processes (NAPs).
Taskforces established under the Global Water Leadership Programme, being implemented in Malawi by Global Water Partnership & UNICEF, have been trained in developing finance plans.
The Southern African Development Community (SADC), in collaboration with the Limpopo Watercourse Commission (LIMCOM), and with the technical support of the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA), is scheduled to convene the 10th SADC River Basin Organisations / Shared Watercourse Institutions (RBOs/SWIs) Workshop on 2-4 October 2023.
On 30 January, United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and GWP organised an online peer-to-peer exhange on drought management in Latin America and the Caribbean, bringing together 250 experts, policy makers, and scientists from the region.
World Rivers Day is an annually recurring occasion to highlight the many values of rivers and to increase public awareness and encourage improved stewardship of rivers around the world. This year, we commemorate the day by drawing attention to the importance of cooperating over shared rivers.
On January 23, 2025, following a collaborative effort led by GWP China and UNICEF China, the Programme of Engaging Youth and Children Innovators in Change for a Sustainable Future in Water and Climate was finalized during a review session, witnessed by youth innovators and partner organizations.

From 6 to 8 May 2025 in Cotonou, Benin, around forty participants are taking part in a regional workshop to train stakeholders on the Knowledge Base of the Decision Support Tool (DST) for the sustainable planning and management of water resources in the Volta Basin.
