Migration is a complex and multi-layered issue, with many pre-conceptions and controversies surrounding the debate on it. On 22 January, GWP together with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and Partners, organised a webinar to shed some light on the linkages between water insecurity and outmigration from rural areas.
The session on “From Source to Delta: Collaboration with urban and agricultural stakeholders” was held on 4 December 2019 from 10.30-12 noon at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo, Sri Lanka.

With the start of a new year, a new decade, and with a new GWP Strategy, GWP Central America Executive Secretary Fabiola Tábora says that it is important to have all GWP Partners and allies working together. On 2 February, World Wetlands Day is celebrated worldwide. The aim is to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and our planet. Wetlands and Biodiversity is the theme for 2020.
The International Water Association (IWA) is organising the first IWA Digital Water Summit - the original dates were set to 27-30 April in Bilbao, Spain, however due to the worldwide Corinavirus crisis new dates have been announced: 30 November - 3 December. The event is designed to bring together water technology providers and water utilities with a focus on business and industry.
20 Mediterranean journalists, members of the Circle of Mediterranean Journalists for Environment and Sustainable Development (COMJESD - founded in 2002 by MIO-ECSDE and GWP-Med) , and 45 NGO representatives participated in a series of events with emphasis on Mediterranean Coastal Wetlands in Rabat, Morocco, on 16-18 December 2019.
