In 2015, the Paris Agreement saw countries make a commitment to climate change mitigation and adaptation through their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). In parallel, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted to address a broad range of sustainable development issues. These two landmark international agreements offer substantive opportunities to integrate water security and climate resilience into transformative growth and development globally, regionally, and nationally.
The Technical Workshop on Project Preparation - Transformative Climate Resilience Water Project Concepts in Asia will be held from 15-17 October at Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Headquarters, Manila, Philippines.
As a follow up to several discussions held between representatives of the four Asian Regional Water Partnerships (RWPs) of Central Asia and Caucasus, China, South Asia and South-East Asia held since 2014 on how to work more closely together in areas of common interests to the region, the group organised workshops on thematic areas identified and prioritised by the RWPs. These workshops promoted exchange of experiences, knowledge sharing, capacity building, project development and other forms of cooperation on the common issues of the Pan Asia Region.
The Pan Asia WACDEP aims to support regions and countries in Asia on the implementation of global and regional commitments under and the Paris Climate Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). More specifically the programme aims to support countries on the implementation of water and adaptation related priorities under the National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
