Forecasting & Modeling Approaches for the Flood Caused

Following a period of unusual heavy monsoon precipitation that started in mid-July and continue into August 2015, Myanmar experienced the most severe flooding in decades. The rainfall is associated with the south-west Monsoon, which occurs each year, but the situation got worse after the land fall of Cyclone Komen in Bangladesh on 30th July 2015 which brought strong winds and additional heavy rain to (north) Myanmar.

Building the resilience of the community around the Limpopo Basin - Site visit of Mtshabezi Mission demonstration area

A water, energy and food nexus demonstration project, under the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP), is set to be implemented in the Tuli- Mtshabezi River Sub Basin of the Shashe sub catchment with emphasis at Mtshabezi Mission to build the resilience of the community around the Basin. As part of the preparatory work scheduled prior to project implementation, an exploratory site visit was undertaken by the team of consultants from the water, energy and food sector on the 17th of July 2015.

Water and Climate Change Adaptation in Transboundary Basins: Lessons Learned and Good Practices

In spite of local uncertainties about the intensity and variability of climate change, it is urgent to initiate adaptation measures in river basin management, including transboundary basins. This publication provides guidance on how to prepare and implement a strong, realistic and operational medium-to-long-term plan for adapting to climate change through a number of case studies and “lessons learned”. This Handbook was produced jointly by GWP and the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) in order to capture experiences with planning and implementing IWRM.
