Oil-shale mining and oil-shale based electricity production has caused serious damage to ground and surface water in the Viru-Peipsi catchment area in Estonia. Action was taken to enhance the protection of the water resources through a project that set out a management plan. The project included data collection, monitoring and capacity building. Due to the success of this project, it can be used as an example for future developments.
The Global Water Partnership (GWP) Sponsoring Partners announced the appointment of Prof Lučka Bogataj among 5 new members for the GWP Steering Committee on 28 August.
The Round Table "Zarafshan transboundary river - water resources use and its role in the valley environment" was held on 10 April 2013 in Samarkand organized by the Ecological Movement Group of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Kengash of the Republic of Uzbekistan and CWP-Uzbekistan under support of the Samarkand Agricultural Institute.

The work forms part of the Governance & Financing for the Mediterranean Water Sector Project that was officially launched in May 2013 (28-29 May, Barcelona) and is jointly implemented by OECD and GWP-Med.
GWP has sponsorship available for eligible participants to complete the online course in Integrated and Adaptive Water Resources Planning, Management and Governance offered by McGill University’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Deadline to apply is 25 August 2016.

A mission toured schools neighboring IWRM pilot sites of Mono and Couffo departments to , a monitor and evaluate the achievements of the teacher trained on hygiene and sanitation.
This mission went to the municipalities of Lalo, Dogbo, Lokossa and Athiémé on 25 and 26 May 2016. The schools visited are respectively ZOUNHOME, DEKANDJI / B OUEDEME and ADOHOUN DEKPOE. This action undertaken in partnership with the Belgian NGO, Protos was done by Mrs Aurore BIOKOU, Training and Communication officer of Benin CWP and Herbert GANSOU, Animator / Mono-Couffo LWP.
