Call for proposals: Drin Day 2016

The CEPF funded Act4Drin project and the GEF/UNDP/GWP-Med project 'Enabling transboundary cooperation and integrated water resources management in the extended Drin River Basin' (GEF Drin Project) are joining forces to raise public awareness about the natural wealth and legacy of the Drin River Basin on the occasion of Drin Day 2016.

Capacity building for the Benin WASH Alliance

The  Members of the Benin WASH alliance composed of national and international NGOs involved in the water and sanitation sector in the country, the country Coordinator and Dutch partners of WASTE and ICCO followed this workshop held from 25 to 28 February 2013.

Uzbekistan: Improved irrigation based on IWRM approaches (#435)

Uzbekistan is experiencing water scarcity, an issue which will be exacerbated with increased demand. Although policies exist, the water seldom reaches the end water users. To combat this issue, action has been taken by GWP Uzbekistan to conduct trainings and workshops on the dissemination of IWRM to encourage a participatory multi-sector approach. This case study illustrates the importance of public awareness, and the need for work to be conducted at all levels.

IWRM Knowledge Workshop Held in Barbados

“A lot is going on but we are not aware of it. We live in a small region but we don’t know what each other is doing in terms of teaching water resources management in universities,” was the key message of Professor Adrian Cashman from the University of West Indies, Cave Hill Campus at the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Knowledge Sharing workshop in Barbados on June 5-6, 2013.

GWP-C Honours Former Chair Trevor Thompson for Long-Standing Service

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) through the support of its partners, the Caribbean Water and Sewerage Association (CAWASA) and the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) was pleased to honour its Former Chair, Mr. Trevor Thompson for his service, leadership and dedication to the GWP-C since its establishment in 2004.

The Limpopo basin is located in Southern Africa and covers an area of 416,296 km2, spreading over four countries: Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Poland: NATURA 2000 implementation as an example of the IWRM process (#244)

NATURE 2000 comprises a designation of nature sites of EU importance. However, after consultations with water managers, it became clear that NATURE 2000 sites located in the river valleys imposed new challenges for water resources management. Action was taken by GWP-Poland and WWF-Poland to find solutions. The project demonstrates that multi-stakeholder dialogue is a basic requirement for the solution of problems involving different perspectives and priorities.

Hungary

Located in Central Europe, northwest of Romania, Hungary is a landlocked state bordering Austria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine. As such, it has a strategic location astride main land routes between Western Europe and Balkan Peninsula as well as between Ukraine and Mediterranean basin. Hungary has a temperate climate with cold and humid winters and warm summers. The north-south flowing Duna (Danube) and Tisza Rivers divide the country into three large regions.
