For the first time the Government of India has selected a non-government organisation, GWP India West Zone Water Partnership (WZWP) Coordinating Agency, Gomukh Trust, to prepare an integrated water resources development and management plan.
In January 2008, GWP-CEE – together with Women in Europe for a Common Future, the European Water Partnership, KIWA Water Research, Coalition Clean Baltic, and Coram Industries – organised a high-level policy dialogue on EU Sanitation Policies and Practices in the 2008 International Year of Sanitation in Brussels, Belgium.
The Wenchuan Earthquake on May 12, 2008 in Sichuan Province affected a large area and population in the province and the neighboring provinces particularly the Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, and it also jeopardized the water supply facilities, particularly, in rural areas. The reconstruction of the rural water facilities is one of key projects of Chinese government.
Over the years, GWP Romania and GWP Ukraine have stepped in to facilitate communication between government and non-government actors on water, health and the environment. This has helped shape ways and tools to translate the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Water and Health Protocol Initiative into action.
