The training and workshop were an answer to regional and country needs of newly established River Basin Councils. The Centre of Cooperation for Sustainable Development (CCSD) requested GWP to provide assistance in the development of manual: Decision making procedures at River Basin levels and building capacities of River Basin Councils.

The Technical Committee of the Global Water Partnership (GWP) defines Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) as a process which promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources in order to maximise economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems and the environment.
On 2 June 2013 the CWP-Georgia jointly with "Greens Movement of Georgia" have broadly celebrated the Day of the Kura-Araks rivers basin protection in Georgia.
In 2010 the El Salvador Ministry of Environment started to prepare a climate change policy. GWP El Salvador and the National Foundation for Development (FUNDE), with financial support from Lutheran World Relief (LWR), arranged national consultations to encourage an exchange of ideas between the government and other stakeholders on a national climate change policy.
Melting glaciers and mining operations are just two of the challenges facing the Ocoña River Basin. GWP Peru and partner, the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), have worked unremittingly since 2003 to put the foundations for IWRM in place in the basin.
To increase awareness about key critical issues related to climate change challenges that Bangladesh is likely to face in the future, a training on “Climate Change Adaptation” was organized by the Institute of Water Modeling (IWM) and GWP Bangladesh, on 23-25 September 2012 in Dhaka.
