GWP will be represented at the conference throughout the two weeks - during the second week a GWP booth will be staffed for any questions or info. Among other hightlights:
10 November - GWP is co-organising an event together with UN-Water on the theme "Climate Action for Improved Water Resources Management", where Kidane Jembere of GWP Southern Africa will present a case study on "Enhancing resilience of communities to climate change through water resources adaptation planning at catchment level in Uganda".
10 November is also themed Water Action Day, which follows up on the COP22 commitment for action on water and climate. GWP Chair Oyun Sanjaasuren will be speaking at a High Level Water Dialogue and she will - together with a Green Climate Fund (GCF) representative - be speaking about scaling up climate finance on water-related investments for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) delivery. Outcomes and priorities emerging from this event will be disseminated through GWP’s press briefing at COP23.
14 November - the GWP press briefing for COP23 is themed "Financing water security and adaptation in NDC implementation." It will be led by GWP's Chair and include other GWP partners. Time & place: Tuesday 14 November, 10:30-11:00, Room 2, BULA Zone 3.
15 November - GWP representatives will make a presentation on the use of climate information in supporting project preparation and accessing climate finance for water security across eight countries in Africa at a Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) event.
GWP's work has recently been endorsed by the Adaptation Fund with two projects that will be highlighted throughout COP23 (details here):
- GWP Eastern Africa and the Sahara and Sahel Observatory(OSS), in the context of the Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) Horn of Africa “Strengthening drought resilience for small holder farmers and pastoralists in the IGAD region";
- The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) with GWP West Africa and the Volta Basin Authority in the context of the Associated Programme on Flood Management (APFM) and IDMP “Integrating Flood and Drought Management and Early Warning for Climate Change Adaptation in the Volta Basin”.
