Following the first edition of the Rome Water Dialogue hosted by FAO in November 2022 and building on the UN 2023 Water Conference, FAO is committed to continue its Water Journey towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, providing the necessary platform for cross-sectoral discussions.
Given the importance of the integrated management of water, soils and land resources, the 2023 Rome Water Dialogue will coincide with and benefit from the “Global Symposium on Soils and Water” that will take place from 2 to 5 October 2023. This will enable technical exchange among participants of the two events with the reporting and closing plenary session jointly organized to provide an opportunity for cross-fertilization and exchange on the technical discussions and outcomes from both events.
On 4 October, GWP's Colin Herron, Senior Water Resources Management Specialist, Water Solutions for the SDGs, will be speaking in Technical Session 5: National Water Roadmaps and strategies (see agenda), emphasising the need for integrated planning solutions grounded in countries' SDG reporting, which ensure strategies get implemented, so that they can quantifiably generate progress towards countries' multiple SDG targets. This will build upon the work of the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme.
