"The issue of gender and water is not just about women and water – it is intersected too by issues of poverty, class, race and ethnicity. All of these factors combine to determine who has access to water and what role water plays in building sustainable livelihoods and a decent quality of life for all." These are the words of Barbara Schreiner, who is the Chair of the conference.

The conference theme is structured around the AMCOW  Policy and Strategy for Mainstreaming  Gender in the Water Sector in Africa.

GWP Participates

The GWP network has always had inclusiveness and gender sensitivity as core values. The new 2014-2019 Strategy “Towards 2020” has built on this by adopting gender as a cross cutting strategic issue and by developing a strategy for putting it into practice.

The GWP participants at this conference will among other things present GWP’s recently launched Gender Strategy, as well as highlight the challenges and opportunities of gender sensitive and women inclusive policymaking in water.
