“In recent times, efforts have been made to strengthen water policy through the generation of intelligent management mechanisms and strategies that lead to Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), such as the formulation and implementation of strategic river basin plans that contemplate sustainable development and adaptation to climatic extremes”, says Pablo Bereciartúa, Argentina’s Secretary of Infrastructure and Water Policy.
As a continuation of activities in Stage 2 under the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, GWP is supporting the government and other stakeholders to evaluate, diagnose and improve governance policies in Argentina. This stage will contribute to the elaboration of a document that reflects the vision of national and provincial stakeholders involved in IWRM, through the identification of challenges and potential solutions to be implemented in the field of water governance.
This process will be carried out by using as reference the baseline and the results obtained in Stage 1, in the second half of 2017.
“At that time, the status of water management and the priorities of governance in Argentina were determined”, says Pablo Storani, focal point of SDG 6 in Argentina: “We are very glad and grateful to have the opportunity to continue working in this topic”.
At the end of the process, the results will serve as a guiding instrument for water policy, allowing the goal to be reached progressively. The activities started two months ago and will be finished in December 2019, with the collection of perspectives and analysis of the conclusions by the key stakeholders of the country.
