Youth Act for Water

GWP Chair Dr Letitia A ObengGWP Chair Dr Letitia A Obeng participated in the side event ‘The Water We Want: Youth Act for Water’ on 12 October 2012 at the UN General Assembly in New York. The event was a partnership between the Belgian Youth Delegates to the UN and the World Youth Parliament for Water, hosted by the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Pressing Need for Urban Water Management

Two-thirds of the Central American population lives in urban areas which is why GWP Central America, with the support of CapNet and LAWETNet, organized a regional workshop on Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) at the Pan-American School for Agriculture (Zamorano) in Honduras from 29 October to 1 November 2012. Participants included representatives of the six countries of the region from municipalities of major cities, water and sanitation agencies, and universities.

Water planning capacity of local authorities improved in Moldova

GWP Moldova made recommendations to five local authorities across Moldova for improvements in water management practices and for reducing environmental damage, together with assessments of the effect of these improvements on community development, the environment, and cost estimates.

Water reforms supported in El Salvador

In 2011, GWP El Salvador was one of three networks recognised by the government as allies in the consultative process for the revision of the draft Water Bill and the National Policy on Water and Sanitation.

Domestic wastewater used for agriculture in Armenia

Wastewater from a community of 10,000 is now being treated in a wastewater pond system, enabling the water to be used for irrigation and preventing land degradation and the pollution of underground water.
