Integrative and inclusive investment project planning at the transboundary and regional levels is critical in the response to challenges and catalysing development in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. This was one of the key issues raised at the transboundary water management session convened by the Lesotho ICM project and Partners at the Stockholm World Water Week (WWW) on 30 August in Stockholm, Sweden.
Building on the success of the previous trainings, and growing demand for knowledge and skills relevant to the preparation and financing of transboundary water projects, GWP hosted, with partners, the Pan-Africa Capacity Building Workshop on International Water Law and Water Governance: for improved practices in transboundary water investments in Africa, in Entebbe, Uganda 19-23 September 2022.
The latest Transboundary Freshwater Security Governance online event, ‘Indigenous people in the governance of transboundary waters,’ was held on 15 September 2022. More than 80 participants from around the world took part in the interactive session to explore how to better involve indigenous people in the governance of transboundary waters.
GWP Pakistan in collaboration with Tayaba Welfare International Association (TWIA), donated 390 “Help to Others (H2O) Wheels” worth of Pakistan Rupees 2.8 million (around Euro 11,700) to the communities who suffer from a lack of safe water in Punjab and Sindh Provinces in Pakistan - belongs to Cholistan and Tharparkar Deserts.

Following the workshop to re-launch the PANGIRE Steering Committee held on August 17 and 18 in Cotonou, the Benin Water Directorate, with the technical and financial support of Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) and the Benin Country Water Partnership (CWP-Benin) through the Water, Climate, Development and Gender Equality Program (WACDEP-G), launched the work of the workshop of extended consultation of national actors for the assessment of the 2nd phase of the National Action Plan for Integrated Water Resources Management (PANGIRE) of Benin and Proposals of actions for the 3rd phase.
Within the framework of the implementation of the project "Clean up Waste and Liquid" financed by NIYEL, in partnership with CWP-Benin, this year activities included the advocacy leading to the adoption of regulatory texts for the application of the law on public hygiene in Republic of Benin.
As part of the implementation of the TFTC 2 country project in Benin in the commune of Tanguiéta, capacity building activities were organized in February 2022 for young students and members of the Local Water Committee (CLE) on plant production.
In the framework of the implementation activities of the national IWRM action plan (PANGIRE) of Niger in its governance compponent, the Common Financing Mechanism of the projects and programs of the Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation (MHA) supported financially the organization of the regional commission of water and sanitation of Dosso for 2022.
As part of the optimization of the water resources monitoring network in the project area, a hydrometric station has been installed in the Niger basin portion of the Mekrou in the Republic of Niger.
