Responding to the invitation of Member States, a High-Level Interactive Dialogue during the sixty-seventh session of the General Assembly in New York on 22 March 2013 World Water Day, was held at the same time as the official celebrations in The Hague, to mark the 2013 International Year of Water cooperation and the twentieth anniversary of World Water Day (A/67/204).
The 2nd High-Level Regional Policy Workshop focusing on “Adapting to Climate Change Induced Water Stress in Nile River Basin,” kicked off in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, Thursday, 4th April 2013.
Nine Nile Basin Countries last February 2013 produced evidence-based climate change resilience status reports that will inform the formulation and implementation of each country’s climate change programs, strategies and policies at national, sectoral and local levels.

Water security in many urban areas is under threat due to the stresses of population growth, urbanisation, water pollution, the over-abstraction of groundwater, water-related disasters, and climate change. Current planning and management have proven insufficient to address the challenges of water security. Around 100 participants, representing 50 different organizations around Nigeria, attended the General Assembly of Partners of the Country Water Partnership of Nigeria held on 14 February 2013. The General Assembly was opened by the Minister of Water Resources Mrs. Sarah Reng Ochekpe, also co-Chair of AMCOW for West Africa, who urged GWP Nigeria to strengthen and expand their activities towards achieving adequate management of water resource in the country.
The Caribbean Weather Impacts Group (CARIWIG) is a new initiative setting out to create tools that will enable access to climate change information which are specifically applicable to the Caribbean region. To support the development of the Project, key regional stakeholders including GWP Caribbean, gave input at a Regional Stakeholder Consultation workshop on 6-7 February, 2013 in Jamaica.
Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) is an important issue for Central America because of the growing population in the cities and the effects of climate change on urban water resources.
GWP Southern Africa has participated in national and international dialogues focusing on water in the post 2015 development agenda. The dialogues form part of the UN national dialogue (post Rio +20) process which will feed into the development of the UN post 2015 Sustainable Development Goal(s).
