GWP Central America, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in coordination with the Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD) and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) of El Salvador, organised the workshop "Integrating Water Security in the National Adaptation Plans (NAPs)." The event was held in San Salvador, El Salvador, on 27-29 October.
Local leaders in the Bhutan districts of Tashi Yangtse and Samdrup Jongkhar participated in GWP workshops to learn about integrated water resources management (IWRM).
GWP Caribbean teamed up with its partners, the Caribbean Youth Environment Network-Jamaica Chapter (CYEN-Ja) and the Water Resources Authority (WRA) of Jamaica, to host a Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) Outreach Initiative at the Jamaica Climate Walk 2015.
The United Nation Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) have developed an online tutorial to raise awareness about the benefits of using climate services for decision-making. GWP contributes to the tutorial through a video interview with GWP Senior Programme and Network Officer Frederik Pischke.
GWP and key partners organised a training opportunity on Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) in Mongolia at the end of September. A new toolkit with training modules for IUWM were used for the first time, to test their functionality in a real environment.
Global Water Partnership (GWP) welcomes the aspirational 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by Member States at the UN General Assembly on September 25, 2015. The transformational vision of the agenda is ambitious and will need an unwavering commitment on the part of everyone. GWP will play its part.
In the past months GWP Central America has undertaken various activities to continue promoting the water goal which is set to be part of the post-2015 agenda.
GWP Central America worked closely with partners to increase regional capacity regarding droughts. A new briefing note on the topic highlights the work that has been done in the context of the Water, Climate and Development Programme.
“I consider myself very fortunate to have spent the last 6 years as the Chair of the Technical Committee. The Committee should be seen as the stable backbone of GWP,” says Dr. Mohamed Ait-Kadi in a farewell interview.
