GWP’s VISION is a water secure world. Our MISSION is to advance governance and management of water resources for sustainable and equitable development.

A network of networks, we ensure the ‘voices of water’ can inﬂuence local, national, regional, and global development priorities. GWP Regions

This is where you can find links to the websites of our Regional Water Partnerships (RWPs). RWPs are closest to the countries where we work. They share knowledge and learning across national boundaries and are expected to have an open, inclusive, and gender-sensitive policies for bringing together as wide a group of stakeholders as possible to solve water problems.

GWP Highlights at World Water Week 2014

GWP is involved in a number of events at this year’s World Water Week in Stockholm. Among the highlights is a joint GWP/OECD Side Event on the “Global Dialogue on Water Security and Sustainable Growth”, where a high level panel will address the water security challenge and present the early results of an Expert Task Force.

GWP and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) are leading the Global Dialogue on Water Security and Sustainable Growth, which aims to promote and accelerate a transition to water security. An Expert Task Force – led by Dr. Claudia Sadoff (World Bank) and Professors Jim Hall and David Grey (Oxford University) – is aiming to build a case for global action to address water-related risks. Special emphasis lies on the economics of water security within the post-2015 development agenda. A final outcome of the Global Dialogue will be a milestone report to be presented at the World Water Forum in South Korea in 2015.

Launching New Publications

GWP is also formally launching its new Gender Strategy. This takes place at the GWP booth (B01:21 - same as last year, top photo) on Wednesday evening. At the same event GWP will be presenting new publications: two Technical Background Papers, one Perspectives Paper, one Proceedings Paper and one Briefing Note. All of these are already available online, and some in hard copy through the GWP online order form.

The topics for the Background Papers are “Groundwater Governance and Irrigated Agriculture” and “Water Security: Putting the Concept Into Practice”. The new Perspectives Paper focuses on the interaction of groundwater and land, while the Briefing Note addresses current ecosystem services. The Proceedings Paper presents the outcome of a GWP Technical Committee consultation that addressed the question on whether it is possible to quantify and measure water security.
