GWP-WA is progressing on PREE/IUCN activities implementation

During the last months the Executive Secretariat coordinated the field missions carried out by the consultants of the AGRISTUDIO/ID SAHEL consortium in 4 Fouta Djalon countries from November 16 to December 04, 2021. The consultants’ firm had submitted their start-up report of the mission on the realization of a prospective diagnosis of the Fouta Djallon massif with the analysis of the opportunities and the proposal of the options/priorities of restoration of the degraded ecosystems of the Massif. This report was validated after some amendments by GWP-WA.

Workshop-Introduction to the Climate-Land-Energy-Water (CLEWs) modelling framework and its use in the Nexus Assessment of the Drina River Basin

A two-day workshop on the Climate-Land-Energy-Water (CLEWs) modelling framework and its use in the Nexus Assessment of the Drina River Basin took place on 8,9 July 2021. The purpose of the workshop was to familiarise participants with the Climate, Land, Energy and Water systems (CLEWs) nexus methodology, used to quantitatively assess the energy-water interlinkages within the Nexus assessment of the Drina River Basin. By providing an overview of general concepts, tools used and hands-on experience on model building, the workshop opened the box of the modelling analysis to the audience and laid the ground for local uptake of the model infrastructure.

How Can Men and Women Be Better Allies to Women Colleagues in the Water Sector?

Water projects are six times more efficient when women are part of the team, and yet there are still massive gaps in employment of women within the water sector, particularly for jobs that are onsite or that require a strong science background. How can we help women colleagues join and stay in the water sector to ensure that water solutions are the best they can be and to help communities and the environment get the water they need to be resilient? On 22 September, Global Water Partnership, Community of Women in Water and World Bank Equal Aqua organise a virtual event on this topic.

The Caribbean Science Symposium on Water by the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C), takes place virtually on March 23rd – 25th, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time (AST) on each day. The theme of the event is “Building Resilience in the Regional Water Sector to Address Climatological and Hydrological Risks and Threats.”

The Danish Water Forum organises the 15th Annual Water Research Conference, which starts on 2 February, to be held online over several days with the last session scheduled for 18 March.

5th UN Special Thematic Session on Water and Disasters

The 5th UN Special Thematic Session on Water and Disasters takes place on 25 June. The event is a high-level global event around the issue of water and disasters, where representatives of member states and other stakeholders discuss the theme as a critical element of achieving sustainable development. GWP Chair Howard Bamsey will be one of the panelists in the closing session.

Lishui River Towards Sustainable Development

On June 2, 2020, close to World Environment Day, was the launch of the Lishui River Basin Development Project held in Lishui Town, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. Vice chair of GWP China, Wang Hao, delivered a speech and introduced a new water management concept.

Adressing formal and informal barriers: key to achieving gender equality in Cameroon's Water and Climate Sector

Following a study conducted by GWP-Cameroon within the context of the AIP Water Climate Development-Gender Program (WACDEP-G) to identify the formal and informal barriers to gender equality in the planning and implementation of development projects in the country’s water and climate sector, a stakeholder dialogue was held in Douala from April 29th – 30th to consolidate and enrich the results and recommendations of the study.
