Global Water Partnership South Asia in collaboration with High-level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP) and the Government of Japan is scheduled a sub-regional consultation, to gain inputs from experts and practitioners in the region on the draft principles on Investment and Financing for Water-related Disaster Risk Reduction. The consultation is scheduled for 12 October 2018 at the Yellow River Auditorium, International Water Resources Management (IWMI), Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is a biennial multi-stakeholder forum established by the UN General Assembly to review progress, share knowledge and discuss the latest developments and trends in reducing disaster risk. In 2019, it is held 13-17 May in Geneva, Switzerland.

GWP Eastern Africa: Our Background, Mission, Vision, and Core Values

The Regional Water Partnership for West Africa (GWP/WA), the regional body of the Global Water Partnership is seeking candidates for the position of its Chair.

One of the key outcomes from the High-Level Panel on Water (2016-2018) was to establish a set of 5 principles on Valuing Water. Following from those recommendations, the Valuing Water Initiative (VWI) was created to support actors in putting those principles into practice. Since the beginning, GWP has been committed to promoting the Valuing Water Principles (VWPs) and using value-based approaches as part of its efforts towards improving water resources management. In collaboration with VWI, GWP supports events and consultation engagement processes at regional and global scales, mainstreams the VWPs in the design and implementation of IWRM plans, promotes the VWPs within its youth engagement initiatives, and develops knowledge products and methodologies related to Valuing Water.

In Sub Saharan Africa, climate change is worsening at an alarming rate. The situation on food security vis-à-vis water resources is serious and everyone has a responsibility to develop appropriate means to address the issue. Following national consultations in the led-up to the UN Committee on Food Security’s (UN CFS) 42^nd session last year, 50 representatives from 9 countries across Africa met in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 18-19 May to prepare for the next step; moving from identification to implementation (#WFEEnexus).
