Integrated water resources management in Eastern Africa: Coping with ‘complex’ hydrology

Extreme and unpredictable rainfall patterns, intense floods and droughts add significantly to the cost of controlling and managing water resources in Eastern Africa. This paper describes the different approaches in IWRM being taken in selected countries in Eastern Africa to address their unique resource management challenges. Forecasts of mortality and economic losses from poor water and sanitation in sub-Saharan Africa

This paper presents country-level estimates of water, sanitation, and hygiene-related mortality and economic losses associated with poor access to water and sanitation infrastructure in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) from 1990 to 2050. It examines the extent to which the changes that accompany economic growth will solve water and sanitation problems and, if so, how long it will take. Technical Focus Papers are publications of the GWP Technical Committee that harness and share knowledge generated by GWP Partnerships.

Water and Climate Change Adaptation in Transboundary Basins: Lessons Learned and Good Practices

In spite of local uncertainties about the intensity and variability of climate change, it is urgent to initiate adaptation measures in river basin management, including transboundary basins. This publication provides guidance on how to prepare and implement a strong, realistic and operational medium-to-long-term plan for adapting to climate change through a number of case studies and “lessons learned”. This Handbook was produced jointly by GWP and the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) in order to capture experiences with planning and implementing IWRM.
