In an effort to scale up implementation of infrastructure, the NEPAD Agency, supported by the African Development Bank, the Regional Economic Communities and other stakeholders met in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, with the objectives of crafting measures to enhance the role out of infrastructure as well as enhance access to infrastructure financing through institutional investors as well as the private sector.
Water and energy are both strategic resources that are fundamental to economic development, industrialisation and creation of much needed jobs in Southern Africa.
On 28 June, a conference dedicated to the conservation and sustainable use of the Danube River in the Northwest Bulgaria was organized in Vratsa, Bulgaria. The event was jointly organized by Global Water Partnership Bulgaria (GWP Bulgaria) and the Regional Administration of Vratsa.
The Southern African Development Community – Groundwater Management Institute (SADC-GMI) will host the 1st Groundwater Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa.
GWP held its annual Regional Days meeting on 23-25 May in Budapest, Hungary. This was followed by meetings of the GWP Steering Committee, Financing Partners Group, and Sponsoring Partners in Stockholm, Sweden on 11-14 June. All meetings were focused on launching the process for developing GWP’s new strategy.
Mina Guli is CEO of Thirst and a member of the GWP Steering Committee. In November she will embark on a mission to complete 100 marathons in 100 days – with the single goal of raising awareness around the global water crisis. Zimbabwe held the Water Resources Infrastructure Investment Conference from the 4th to the 5th June as part of the Government’s bid to mobilise resources for the accelerated development of the country’s water infrastructure.
